FOT Introduction:
The Fiber Optic Technician (FOT) certification from ETA was originally established in the year 2001 and was last updated in the year 2005. Before a student can do a FOT certification exam he or she must have an ETA Certification: Fiber Optic Installer (FOI) certification that has not yet expired.
FOT Description:
The Fiber Optic Technician (FOT) certification shows a higher level of knowledge of fiber optic networks. Once a student has successfully acquired the ETA FOT certification you are qualified and more than able to design, configure, install, and maintain fiber optic systems, as well as test and troubleshoot a Local Area Network (LAN). A main concern of the ETA FOT certification, which should be is heavily emphasized approved ETA Training Guides is the knowledge of fiber optics concepts.

FOT Required Exams:
The exams required in order to achieve the ETA FOT certification has an option of one exam: the ETA CFOT exam.
FOT Recertification:
Each FOT certification only has a maximum lifetime of four years. After four years the student has a choice of receiving 24 or more classroom hours of additional fiber optic training, or passing a recertification exam. If you have not been working in the fiber optic industry as a fiber optic installer, technician, engineer, or educator since you obtained certification you will be required to attend an approved CFOT refresher course to renew your FOT certification.
